Palm Sunday, in Christianity, is the Sunday before Easter, so called from the custom of blessing palms and of carrying portions of branches in procession, in commemoration of the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. Palm Sunday is the Sunday before Easter Sunday, considered to be the second Sunday of the passion of our Lord Jesus Christ. In the three oldest Roman Sacramentaries no mention is found of either the benediction of the palms or the procession.
