Les manuscrits originaux qui représente la Bible dans les temps anciens, on pense qu'ils ont été rédigés en hébreu antique (Ancien Testament) et en grec ancien (Nouveau Testament).
Ceux qui utilisent de nombreux alphabets lettres qui n'existent pas dans notre alphabet moderne.
Une façon de créer une version imprimable est ce que l'on appelle romanisée du texte.
Pour illustrer ce que ce matériel source de la Bible est comme une partie de la Genèse est indiquée ci-dessous dans la forme romanisée.
Aucun de ces manuscrits originaux réels semblent encore exister aujourd'hui.
En général, les Bibles modernes sont tous basés sur le nombre de copies de manuscrits de la réalité, et très peu de ces copies sont âgés de plus de près de 1000 ans.

Enfin, la traduction de la Bible a été compliquée par plusieurs faits supplémentaires.
L'original en hébreu antique dont l'Ancien Testament a été écrit la première fois, aurait été écrit sans les voyelles sont enregistrés.
Par exemple, Dieu a été renvoyé au JHWH comme dans la Bible.
Quand l'Ancien Testament a été traduit en grec (dans la Septante), les voyelles ont été ajoutées, pour faire des mots qui ont été significatives dans la langue grecque.
Depuis JHWH était apparemment unpronouncable, peuple ancien de plusieurs autres noms utilisés pour se référer à Dieu, dont l'une était Adonai.
Les voyelles de ce nom ont été insérés entre les lettres de JHWH pour créer un nom que nous nous référons à Jéhovah.
Manuscrits grecs ont également été quelque peu difficile à traduire, parce qu'ils ont été écrits avec des lettres toutes de la même taille et sans espaces entre les mots ou les phrases.
